Violet's Story

My husband had been managing our money very well but when we moved to Bury in 2007 we decided it was time to get professional advice. We didn’t know anyone well enough to ask for a recommendation, so we looked through the Yellow Pages and found them there.

An instant feeling of trust

At our first appointment we had to bring details of all our current investments. We worked with Charles Coldrey back then and he reviewed them all and explained that they needed overhauling. But at the same time, he made it very clear that this meeting was to give us an opportunity to see what we thought of him – and vice versa – after all, it’s a two-way thing.

We talked though our current financial position and he asked us what we wanted to do with our money. Then he let us know that we were to go away, have a think, and if we didn’t come back, that was fine!

My husband and I looked at each other and said “He’s the one!” We just trusted him instantly. Trust is a very difficult thing to explain – it’s largely intuitive – but I felt from that moment that a huge problem had been lifted.

They look after me

After my husband David died, I went through an awful experience with my solicitor, who rather than help me to deal with my husband’s affairs simply deserted me. At that time Charles had a wonderful Personal Assistant called Sue and together they stepped in to help. I didn’t even know you could ‘suspend’ a solicitor, but they initiated this process for me and went on to recommend someone else.

Charles came to these initial meetings with me because there was quite a lot to oversee. He didn’t say much, but he didn’t need to; Charles was there to back me up. He was very astute, knew what he was doing, and I always felt as if he was looking after me.‍

Explaining money to the next generation

I’d arranged for my grandchildren to inherit some of my husband’s money at 18, and Coldrey helped with this too. Charles also helped to explain to them what they could do with the money. Two of them have learnt a great deal from this and now work with Coldrey Wealth themselves. I'm very confident they'll help my grandchildren with their affairs, which means I don't have to worry about this.

Charles has retired now, but the rest of the Coldrey team share the same principles and ethos and I feel just as comfortable chatting to them. ‍

They provide continuous advice

I’m about to have a birthday and reach a horrible age, which is where Coldrey Wealth have helped too. They've suggested ways of exploring care home fees for example.

They’re also always there on the end of the phone to help with any query – even the tiniest thing.‍

Genuine friendship

I just feel so lucky to have found them and to have got such help and genuine friendship from them. Not everyone is like this – for some people it’s just a job – but finding a connection with someone you’re working with in this way is vital.

I always feel as if they’re looking after me as part of the family and putting my best interests at heart. I never feel as if they’re trying to make money from me.
